Alex's Story

When Alex (21) stepped through the doors of our pop-up Work Club service, he wasn't sure what to expect. Reaching out to the Work. Live. Leicestershire project, he was able to find guidance and take the next step in his career.

Initially our service helped Alex to establish which opportunities might be right for him. Identifying his skills in business administration, the team helped Alex to refine his CV and draw employer's attention. Whilst searching for opportunities that sparked his interest, Alex worked with us to develop interview techniques for when the right position came along.

One opportunity in particular stood out for Alex and the project team. At Leicestershire County Council, an administrative role was advertised that related to previous experience that Alex had gained. Supported by the project throughout the recruitment process, he was offered a fantastic apprenticeship within the Leicestershire Adult Learning Service .

Recognising the benefits that apprenticeships offer both individuals and organisations, Leicestershire County Council are aiming to create 300 apprenticeships by 2020 working with various providers. Alex's new manager Catherine, noted that these opportunities enhanced the development employees whilst also helping to deliver their services across the county.

Now currently working in his Apprentice Business Support Assistant position, Alex is enjoying settling into the team and will be completing coursework to strengthen his skillset further. Reflecting on his experiences, he noted: "Even if you don't think you've got the right qualifications, just go for it. Take in as much feedback as you can."
