C.J was experiencing long periods away from work due to severe OCD. The Work. Live. Leicestershire (WiLL) project is helping him to access the right voluntary opportunities both online and within his rural community.
As a specialist in computer linguistics, C.J had previously worked all over the world including Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Geneva. However after his condition deteriorated, he became unable to work.
During a second relapse, C.J recognised that he needed to reclaim a regular working timetable in a professional yet unpressured environment.
He said: "I had to take extended time out of work to rebuild and was looking for voluntary placements to start simulating a work routine."
He approached our partner Voluntary Action Leicestershire (VAL), who signposted him to the WiLL project. With key interests in research, language and computing, his keyworker looked for relevant and local volunteering opportunities.
Since joining the project, C.J has developed a schedule of activities; including joining our De Montfort University participant forum and assisting the WiLL project's digital marketing.
He has also been introduced to online learning resources that he can access to develop his skills in his own time, adding: "The WiLL project has helped with confidence, accessing volunteering and getting going with the right courses for me."
Outside of the project, C.J has furthered his skills by brushing up on his Italian, assisting an English teaching project and building upon his fantastic progress with us.
