Online learning

Mark never thought that he would be able to master online learning and jobs search before he joined the Work Live Leicestershire (WiLL) project.

But, after enlisting the help of the BBO WiLL programme, he was able to complete a series of virtual training courses through our partner, the WEA Leicester and Leicestershire.

Not only has he now become proficient in digital skills, Mark has also improved in mental health, confidence and assertiveness, along with improving his CV and interview techniques.

Alongside that personal development with the WEA came one-to-one input and mentoring from WiLL keyworker Gurds, as the two targeted his dream job.

Mark, who lives in Hinckley, has since gone on to land a plum role within the engineering sector and is happy to reflect on a positive employment support experience with the WiLL project.

He said: “I’m 55 years old and I joined the Work Live Leicestershire (WiLL) project in November 2021, after being furloughed and then made redundant.

“I wanted help, in the next stage of my life, and to find a job that I could settle into. I am pleased to share that, in March 2022, I found employment.

“I’m now working for an engineering firm that specialises in restoring classic cars, with a good salary and all is going well.

“The WEA courses have been so helpful and beneficial, not only for their educational value, but also by enabling me to participate and connect with other people.

“They have helped give me the self-confidence to look for and, ultimately, secure employment as a classic car restorer.

“I owe a great deal of credit to my keyworker Gurds, the BBO WiLL programme and the encouraging staff at the WEA, who supported me throughout my learning journey.

“Although I had a computer, I had never connected virtually, using any software. Once I could do that, I completed several courses with the WEA

“The assistance I got from Gill, from the WEA admin team, by helping me into the Zoom app was invaluable and learning to get online made the pandemic more bearable.

“I have found the Living with and Managing Anxiety course most helpful and beneficial. The mind and how it works has become of particular interest to me.

“The techniques I learned during my courses will stay with me and help me face times of stress and adversity. All my tutors were supportive of my needs.

“They made me feel welcomed, comfortable and accommodated. Thank you to everyone who has supported me.”
